Sikkim the World´s only Organic State is ready for the Global Markets

Sikkim the world´s first and still only 100% organic state is now ready to market its products to the global organic markets. This was the commitment of Sikkim´s Agriculture Minister and his delegation at Biofach 2025. Thanks to a professional processing facility Sikkim Organic State can meet all demands and requirements with high quality commodities and searching for business partners at the world leading organic trade fair Biofach in Nuremberg. It was a honor for me to be asked doing an interview with the minister and the delegation.

Sikkim is a role model

The minister introduced the current focus crops of Sikkim Organic State for the domestic and global markets: buckwheat, large cardamom, ginger, turmeric and tea. He also emphasises that also fishery and husbandry products are in offer now. The secretary of the Agriculture Ministery explains that there has been serious support by the national government of India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi since the declaration of Sikkim as an Organic State 2016. As well there are strong efforts by Sikkim´s Chief Ministers who were and are taking the responsibility to maintain and further develop the still only entire organic state in India and worldwide. With the Sikkim Organic Farming Development Agency the implementation of high quality processing facilities and future plans for expanding the range of commodities, the development is going on. Minister Puran Kumar Gurang said that Sikkim is the leader in organic farming and gives guidelines for the entire Indian nation. This is a big achievement.

Searching for Business Partners

The marketing is catching up thanks to a brand new very modern processing facility where high volumes of the commodities can be manufactured in an effective way and all requirements of the business partners and organic markets can be met. Sikkim was present with a booth at the Indian pavilion powered by APEDA, the Indian Export Development Agency. In addition the delegation of the Agriculture Department with the minister, the general secretary, the Director and the Chief Executive Officer visited Biofach in Nuremberg to introduce Sikkim´s products to the markets. Fact is that India will be the Country of the Year at BioFach 2026 and this will be another fantastic occasion to offer Sikkim´s products to interested buyers.
